Cheli isn’t starting. Shade makes the most sense since AZ, CD and AG are not ready (KK will be the backup guard). Ziebell will be the surprise freshman. She is an elite shooter (don’t know about D) and can be instant office off the bench.
Strong is a modern big. Worrying about her set position is 2010 thinking since she has a skill set that can make so many different lineups work. 4 guards with her as the big is all position hoops and would be tough to stop if, say, AZ, Paige, Chen and Shade are hitting their shots. Play her with Jana and Ice and she is the stretch 3. Rollout long with Q, Paige, AG, Strong and Ziebell or CD and most teams have no answer to that mix of length and shooting. Point is, there aren’t many people who can cover Strong everywhere on the court she can score or initiate scoring from. This year all comes down to coaching and Paige getting the rest of the young team confidence. That’s a lot on Paige but she can handle it. The players are ready on paper. No question, Geno and his staff are up for the challenge. We’ll know more by February. And we’ll learn the final answer in March. Gonna be an amazing season.
geno overrates experience. Hidalgo, Booker, and Juju were some of the best players in the country as freshmen. Skill trumps experience. The problem is replacing the skilled Aaliyah Edwards won't be easy. The frontcourt is a big concern.
Also, list the top 5 players. This team does not have great individual defenders. Geno will be frustrated with the defense. Book that.
Team will probably struggle early on defense but will be very good by end of the year simply because it has good guards, a superstar and a big in the middle. The coaching staff knows D and if AG is fit and comfortable by March, they will have the best bench in the nation ( AG, Ice, Shade, KK, Q, Patterson and maybe even CD). Paige is so good offensively we tend to forget what a great d force she is.
Bueckers, Chen, Cheli, Strong & El Alfy start.
Shade/Arnold/Brady off the bench first. Ziebell also gets good minutes. This is the early-on starting & bench rotation.
Cheli = surprise contributor (size/smarts/decision making).
Chen is going to be really good and handle the offensive load at tim
